Busy, Busy, Busy

October has been a BUSY month, both physically and emotionally. We have celebrated birthdays, partied with friends, and mourned the loss of family members. All in all, it has been a big range of emotions this month.

Our extended family has lost 2 wonderful people. At the beginning of the month we were saddened by the sudden death of my oldest sister-in-law's dad, Grandpa Weldon. He was such a loving man and he loved working in his garden and fishing on the lake. I will miss his sweet smile and his cream peas. He always brought home-grown veggies to the Schauer family get togethers. Even though he wasn't a biological grandparent to four of the Schauer kids, they all called him Grandpa Weldon. Even though we were sad, we were able to celebrate Weldon's long happy life and rejoice that he is with the Lord.

Then, last week, we were stunned by the death of a young cousin. He was killed in a car accident and he leaves behind 2 devoted parents and a loving twin brother. It has been very difficult and while I know that he is in heaven, it is hard to find peace with the fact that he is no longer here with his family.

On a happy note, we celebrated 2 birthdays at the beginning of the month. My niece Nicki turned 11 on October 2, and then, five days later, my son turned 11. We celebrated his birthday by grilling hamburgers and inviting both sets of grandparents to the house for lunch.

On the same weekend Travis turned 11, we celebrated Come and Take it, a local event to commemerate the first shot for Texas independance. You can read more about C and TI in the following wiki articles: Wikipedia 1 and Wikipedia 2. Down at the bottom of the 2nd article, you will see the cannon on a reproduction of the carriage. One of Darren's great-great uncles made this carriage many years ago for a C and TI celebration. I'll have to pull out the Schauer family history book and find out some more details about that.

On Come and Take It weekend, we go to the carnival, work in the church food booth, watch the parade, and hang out with friends. It is always a fun-filled busy weekend.

Photos from Trav's bday and the Come and Take It Parade:

Travis on his 11th birthday.

Check out this photo. Do we look redneck since Travis is holding his new gun and wearing his new bird vest?? **smiling** Travis was SO excited about his new gun.

Left to right: Pop and Gram Schauer, Allyson, Me, Darren, Travis and Grammy and Gramps Colwell

The next few photos are from the Come and Take It parade. 2 of the photos I'm sharing just because I think that they are funny. It always cracks me up to see vintage tractors in a parade. I think that this John Deere was made in 1952.

This parade entry was a huge hit with the kids!! I snapped this photo before the parade started and you can see how large it is compared to the cars on the street. Travis would LOVE to drive it!!!

This last photo is of one of our cousin's youngest daughter, and she is one year younger than Allyson. She was 2nd runner up in the Miss Shiner pageant. Isn't she a doll?

Hugs sweetie. I've been keeping your family in my prayers. That's so neat that Travis and Nicki are the same age, I always wanted cousins my age. Neat about the Come and Take it event!
